On February 19, 2026, at approximately 9:00 A.M., officers responded to the alley of 27XX Pillsbury in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for the report of an unconscious person behind the wheel of a car. Officers saw the driver slumped towards the middle of the vehicle and then saw the vehicle lurch forward and softly strike a dumpster. Officers approached and eventually identified the driver as Detrayveon Shawn Barth, hereafter defendant. Defendant spoke to officers with a slurred voice. Officers told defendant to exit the vehicle and he refused.
Officers then forcefully took him out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest. Upon searching the defendant, officers located a baggie of white powdery substance in his pocket that field-tested positive for fentanyl. Officers also observed a piece of burnt tinfoil by the driver's seat. Defendant's license was cancelled. A warrant for defendant's blood was drafted, signed and executed. BCA lab results showed that the defendant had fentanyl in his system at the time of the incident. The defendant has three prior DWI events: a DWI conviction dated 2/3/25 from Washington County, a DWI conviction dated 4/7/22 from Hennepin County and a license revocation pursuant to search warrant dated 5/21/20. The State seeks a warrant for the defendant's arrest based on a potential threat to public safety.
