On December 11, 2025, Deputy Reid Holum of the Itasca Sheriff's Office and AIM VCET Drug Taskforce applied for a search warrant for the person of James Louis David and his residence located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] [APT REDACTED], Grand Rapids, Itasca County. The search warrant was signed by the Honorable Sarah McBroom. On December 15, 2025, at 1:39 P.M. Members of the AIM VCET Drug Taskforce executed the search warrant. Deputy Holum knocked on the door of the apartment, at which time he heard a child's voice inside.
Shortly thereafter, David opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, at which time he was detained in handcuffs. His nine (9) year old son, X. A. D., later exited the apartment and joined David in the hallway. Deputy Holum then entered the residence and announced the presence of law enforcement, at which time two (2) adult males exited the bedroom at the end of the hallway and were identified. One of them was arrested on outstanding Stearns County warrants. The other was allowed to leave the apartment.
David and X. A. D. Were then brought back into the apartment, at which time law enforcement conducted their search. During the search, law enforcement located a clear plastic baggie containing 0.63 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a second plastic baggie containing 2.84 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a thrid baggie containing 1.49 grams of methamphetamine. The contents of all three baggies field tested positive for methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance.
Also located was a clear baggie containing thirteen (13) oxycodone hydrochloride pills, suspected to contain fentanyl (a Schedule II controlled substance). Also located was a clear baggie containing nine (9) amphetamine pills (a Scheduled II controlled substance). Also located was a clear baggie containing twenty-eight (28) acetaminophen/hydrocodone pills (a Schedule II controlled substance). Also located was a clear baggie containing two (2) alprazolam pills (a Schedule IV controlled substance). Also located throughout the apartment were the following: two (2) used methamphetamine pipes, one on David's person and the other located near the baggie containing 1.49 grams of suspected methamphetamine which was recovered from between the bed and the wall in the north bedroom at the end of the hallway (David's bedroom). A silver digital scale and blue plastic container with suspected methamphetamine residue in it were located in the closet in the north bedroom.
Several micro baggies containing suspected methamphetamine residue were also located in the closet of the north bedroom. Other items of drug paraphernalia located and documented throughout the apartment, included used 4 31-CR-26-3 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/2/2026 syringes in a cardboard box on top of the upper kitchen cabinets, a methamphetamine bong, and other items of drug paraphernalia located in the closet of David's bedroom. David also provided delegation of parental authority court paperwork indicating that his sister (D. A.M. D.) was authorized to take custody of X. A. D. When David was unable to care for him.
