At around 11:55 PM on March 21, 2026, an officer stopped a GMC Envoy with a temporary plate near Dale Street and Rondo Avenue, St. Paul, Ramsey County for going through a red light. The officer saw an opened bottle of tequila in the back seat. The officer had the driver and passenger, ASHLEY MONIQUE BRAXTON [DOB REDACTED], exit the Envoy. The driver said the bottle of alcohol was old. The officers saw a second bottle of tequila in the front passenger foot area, and bags of suspected drugs in a purse.
The purse contained Braxton and the driver’s identifications. The driver’s license was revoked. Braxton owned the Envoy. Braxton and the driver were arrested. Braxton was advised of her constitutional rights and agreed to speak to police. Braxton admitted the fentanyl in the purse belonged to her. She said the driver didn’t know the drugs were in her purse. Braxton later said she bought the fentanyl because she had never before tried it. The contents of two of the bags recovered from Braxton’s purse tested positive for the presence of fentanyl and weighed a combined total of 0.92 grams.
