On January 5, 2026, JO-M went to the St. Paul Police Department to report a domestic assault and theft incident. JO-M told police that on December 30, 2025, she received an invitation for dinner at Pauly’s Pub and Grill, [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, from her ex-boyfriend, later fully identified as AQUIL BASSEER MUHAMMAD – [DOB REDACTED]. JO-M said she did not feel comfortable going alone, so she invited her sister and friend. At the bar, JO-M reported that they were talking about their upcoming camping trip, which made MUHAMMAD upset, and he abruptly walked out of the bar.
Shortly thereafter, JO-M said MUHAMMAD sent her a text stating he would never invite her out again. JO-M saw MUHAMMAD come back into the bar, so she left and went to her vehicle to avoid confrontation. As JO-M got into her vehicle, she said that MUHAMMAD entered her vehicle from the back passenger side door on the driver’s side. JO-M reported that as she began driving away, MUHAMMAD tried to take control of the wheel from the backseat and stated, “I will kill us both!” and, “I will f****** spin us out!” JO-M said MUHAMMAD grabbed her by the head and forcefully slammed her head into the steering wheel, which made her stop the vehicle and caused her to have some temporary confusion.
JO-M reported that MUHAMMAD grabbed her cell phone from the cupholder. JO-M tried to grab it back from MUHAMMAD, but he forcefully snatched her phone away and got out of her vehicle. JO-M returned to the back and asked her sister to call her phone with negative results. JO-M’s sister called JO-M’s son, and they went to MUHAMMAD’s house to try to get JO-M’s phone because that’s where her phone’s last ping was located, but they were unable to get her phone back from MUHAMMAD. JO-M purchased a new phone the next morning, and MUHAMMAD subsequently texted her son admitting that he took JO-M’s phone and disposed of it in a snowbank.
JO-M reported that she sustained a bruise on her forehead from MUHAMMAD slamming her head into the steering wheel and provided pictures to police. In a follow-up statement to the investigator, JO-M reiterated her original report that she met MUHAMMAD for dinner and brought her sister and her sister’s friend then MUHAMMAD got upset when they discussed an upcoming camping trip. After MUHAMMAD left the bar, JO-M said they exchanged text messages then she left to avoid a confrontation with him. JO-M said that as she was walking to her vehicle, she and MUHAMMAD were yelling at each other.
When JO-M got into her vehicle and turned it on, she noticed that the rear driver’s side door was open then heard MUHAMMAD’s voice inside the vehicle. JO-M reported that she panicked and was scared, so she drove off because she wanted to get out of there. As she was driving, JO-M stated that MUHAMMAD kept yelling at her and made statements along the lines of, “B****, I will f****** kill you! I will crash your car out!” JO-M said MUHAMMAD tried to grab the steering wheel then pushed the back of her head forward causing her forehead to hit the steering wheel.
