On August 27, 2025, officers with the Edina Police Department responded to the Amundson Flats (“the Apartment”) located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Edina, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on report of a mail theft. Officers spoke with a known person (“Victim”). Victim [NAME REDACTED] had a package delivered on August 15, 2025, and that the package was stolen from the main entry way. Victim reported that the package contained physical photos of her mother, who was about to turn 80-years-old, that had been taken over the preceding 79-years.
Victim mailed the photos to a company who digitalized them. The company, then mailed back the physical photos to Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Victim provided officers with the package’s tracking number which confirmed the package had been delivered. Officers contacted an employee of the Apartment. The Employee told officers that the suspect was a guest of a tenant (“the Tenant”) of the Apartment. Officers spoke with the Tenant who was aware of the theft. The Tenant told officers that the suspect’s name was “Jamar Pankey” and that the Tenant had been trying to get the package back from “Jamar Pankey.” The Tenant provided officers with “Jamar Pankey’s” Facebook profile.
Officers were able to identify Jamar Antonio Pankey [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”) as the “Jamar Pankey” that the Tenant was talking about. Officers then obtained surveillance footage which captured the theft. Officers obtained a known photo of Defendant and compared it to the surveillance footage. Officers positively identified Defendant as the thief.
