On October 16, 2025, Crystal Police Officers responded to a theft in progress report occurring at Marshalls store, 201 Willow Bend, Crystal, Hennepin County. The reporting party, Loss Prevention Officer C. P., stated that three individuals were inside Marshalls. A male, later identified as JEFFREY EUGENE GIVEN, Defendant Given herein, was inside the store assisting two females select merchandise and place them into a laundry basket from inside the store and a reusable bag. The females were later identified as LATONYA DENISE JACKSON, Defendant Jackson herein, and CYNTHIA ANN MAXWELL, Defendant Maxwell herein.
Defendant Given then left the store and pulled a white 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van up to the fire doors of Marshalls. Defendant Jackson and Defendant Maxwell then left the store with the merchandise they compiled into the reusable bag and laundry basket without attempting to pay for it. Defendant Jackson and Defendant Maxwell then got into the Town and Country Defendant Jackson pulled up to the store's doors. The three left in the Town and Country with the side passenger door open. Officers located the vehicle that had entered the turn lane to drive northbound onto county road 81. Officers attempted to stop the Town and Country at a red light.
The Town and Country then went through the red light and accelerated at a high rate of speed away from Officers. The Town and Country then struck a construction sign near Orchard Avenue North and continued to drive away from Officers. The Town and Country then struck a silver 2007 Pontiac Torrent owned by M. N. At the entrance to the Speedway gas station located at 1901 57th Avenue North causing the rear bumper to come off and damage to the rear quarter panel. The pursuit went a total of 3.9 miles, and the fastest speed was 87MPH on 56th Ave N. Officers initiated a PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle.
Officers identified Defendant Given as the driver, Defendant Maxwell as the front seat passenger, and Defendant Jackson as the rear passenger. Loss Prevention Officer C. P. Arrived on scene and recovered approximately 50 items valued at $1,061.50 in the laundry basket, inside the vehicle, and a few items were inside Defendant Maxwell's purse. When being placed under arrest, Defendant Maxwell refused to cooperate with Officers by making phone calls and ignoring Officer commands to exit the vehicle, digging in the floorboard of the vehicle when being asked to step out of the vehicle, and pulling her arms away from Officers when being placed in handcuffs.
The Defendant is currently out of custody.
