On May 29, 2026, Officer Morales responded to the 2600 block of Oak Hill Court on an assault. The call comments stated a drunk male was trying to steal the caller’s phone and threatened her. The suspect male was actively fighting the caller. Officer Morales arrived and spoke with KGR who said she returned home from work at 11:00 P.M. She noticed that NC and FREDY ADONAY SORTO GOMEZ, [DOB REDACTED], (later identified in the investigation) were drinking beer in the living room. She was hungry and started cooking.
NC went to the bathroom. SORTO GOMEZ started cussing her out. KGR told SORTO GOMEZ not to mess with her, and told him to stop or she would call the police. He told her, “If you call the police, you will know who I am. If you call the police, I will break your phone.” KGR called police to have SORTO GOMEZ removed from the address. While she was on the phone with dispatch, SORTO GOMEZ charged toward her and hit her with closed fists. As he punched her, he said, “I’m going to kill you.” She did not fight back and put her hands up to cover herself.
She was afraid for her life because he would not stop hitting her. She thought SORTO GOMEZ could kill her because he is known to be aggressive and carry knives. While he was assaulting her, SORTO GOMEZ tried to remove her cell phone from her hand. He did not stop punching her until NC exited the bathroom and separated them. KGR locked herself in her room and SORTO GOMEZ tried to enter. He then left the residence. KGR did not know SORTO GOMEZ’s name because she rents a room at the residence. KGR’s left cheek was swollen and was red.
Her upper lip was busted and she had a bump on her left forearm the size of a golf ball. NC said he and SORTO GOMEZ were having drinks. He asked SORTO GOMEZ if he could stay at the house for the night because he works near the area. NC went to the bathroom. When he exited, SORTO GOMEZ was hitting KGR with closed fists. He grabbed SORTO GOMEX from the waist and pulled him away from KGR. SORTO GOMEZ scratched the back of his head when he tried to separate him from KGR. NC said he knew Sorto as Adonay Sorto Cardona.
NC had a small scratch on the back of his head. HL told officers he knew his roommate, Adonia Gomez, assaulted KGR. HL sleeps in the room next to SORTO GOMEZ. HL showed officers a photo of the suspect, SORTO GOMEZ, from earlier in the day. KGR confirmed that the person in the photo that HL showed officers in the suspect. Due to previous contacts in Zuercher, an officer identified the suspect as SORTO GOMEZ. A photo lineup was administered to KGR. KGR selected SORTO GOMEZ as the suspect. Later, officers were called back to the residence because SORTO GOMEZ returned and had a knife.
Officers arrested SORTO GOMEZ. After a Miranda advisory, SORTO GOMEZ spoke to an officer. He said HL and KGR are dating and are always against him. KGR was annoyed because he was drinking with NC when she arrived from work. She told him to stop drinking or she would call the cops on him. SORTO GOMEZ denied punching or threatening to kill KGR. He attempted to grab her cell phone when she was calling police, but failed.
