On January 12, 2026, at approximately 5:30 pm, officers responded to Tonkadale Greenhouse in Minnetonka, Hennepin County, Minnesota for a fraud alert. A customer, S. C., had just contacted the store telling them that his credit card had been charged in the amount of approximately $2,843 for purchases that he did not make. S. C. Was not in the store and had his credit card on his person. A store employee told police that two males had just purchased items using their phone and right after the store received the call from S. C. The same two males had been in the store the day prior and returned merchandise after purchase.
S. C. Also had fraudulent charges on his card from the day prior. Officers received a description of the car the males had been driving and observed the car leaving the area of the store. The driver then made evasive actions once the officer was observed. The driver eventually pulled over. The passenger was identified as Abubakar Mohamed Abdi, hereafter defendant. Defendant was identified by store employees as the person that made the purchases of lawn soil and vases minutes before. Defendant gave officers the name of Abdillahi Mohamed Abdi with a date of birth of 4-10-1998. It was discovered that the defendant had multiple warrants for his arrest outstanding.
Defendant's cell phone was taken as evidence. Defendant is currently in custody.
