On April 21, 2025, at approximately 0440 hours, Metro Transit Police Officers observed on CCTV cameras on the eastbound BRT station at Lake Street and 2nd Avenue South, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, individuals possessing suspected narcotics. Officers observed a male later identified as ELMI YASSIN MOHAMUD, Defendant herein, and a female passing a pink Post-it paper with suspected narcotics inside to each other. Officers responded to the area and located the Defendant and the female. In a search incident to arrest, Officers located the pink paper in the Defendant's pocket.

Metro Transit Officers sent the suspected narcotics to the BCA. On September 30, 2025, the BCA reported that the suspected narcotics contained methamphetamine and weighed 0.364 grams. The case was opened with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office on November 18, 2025. The Defendant is currently out of custody.
