On or about April 22, 2026, at approximately 9:45 P.M., officers responded to a home on the 3600 block of 22nd Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota for an assault report. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with J. H. (“Victim” herein). Victim had a visible laceration above his eyebrow. Victim told officers that he and his PCA (“Witness” herein) were in the common area of the rear of the home, moving some items to the basement. Victim told officers he and Witness were moving these items because Victim thought MARVIN AMES (“Defendant” herein) was stealing from Victim.
Victim told officers that Defendant confronted him about moving these items. Victim reported Defendant denied stealing anything and then began punching Victim. Victim said Defendant punched him multiple times in the face with a closed fist, and Victim was unable to defend himself due to a spinal cord injury. Victim said Witness was also unable to intervene due to Witness’s age. Officers spoke with Witness, who corroborated Victim’s allegations. Victim was taken to the hospital. Victim suffered a fractured left inferior orbital bone and the laceration above his left eyebrow required multiple stitches.
Officers located and arrested Defendant. Defendant told officers that he did not have any injuries, but he claimed that Victim and Witness attacked him first. Defendant showed officers an injury to his toe, but he told officers this injury occurred before the confrontation with Victim.
