On November 5, 2025, officers responded to a call for credit card fraud at the Mall of America, in the City of Bloomington, County of Hennepin, State of Minnesota. Officers were contacted by M. B., who stated that his Saint Paul Federal Credit Union Card was being used in a series of transactions at stores at the Mall of AmericA.M. B. Stated that the card was used in the following transactions: $100 and $229 at Pro Image $400 at Foot Locker $360 at Nike The total value of the transactions was approximately $1,089. Officers contacted staff at Pro Image, who confirmed the transactions took place and provided officers with a photo of the individual who conducted the transaction.
The individual was carrying a brown Nike bag. Officers then went to Foot Locker, and surveillance showed the same individual using M. B.’s credit card to complete the transaction there. Mall security located the individual, who was making repeated trips between stores in the mall and a vehicle in the west parking ramp to drop off bags. Officers located the individual, who fled as soon as officers approached. Officers detained the individual and identified him as Marcus Dupree Smith [DOB REDACTED]. Officers obtained a warrant for the vehicle Smith was placing bags into and located the merchandise Smith purchased with M. B.’s credit card inside the vehicle.
Smith has multiple prior convictions for financial transaction card fraud and identity theft, including 82-CR- 18-2183 from July 8, 2019, and 19HA-CR-17-4549 from November 20, 2019. Smith is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to felony financial transaction card fraud on July 21, 2025 in 27-CR-24- 4131. Smith is currently in custody.
