Complainant is Maple Grove Police Department Detective Dominic Wareham. Complainant states that on November 2, 2025, at approximately 1:24PM, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Syacamore Lane North in the city of Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota, after receiving a traffic complaint regarding a silver SUV weaving in traffic and almost striking another vehicle. The reporting party provided vehicle details and license plate number and updated that the vehicle had pulled into the Extended Stay parking lot.
Officers arrived shortly after and observed a vehicle matching the description and license plate number parked in the end of the parking lot and occupied by two males. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as NICOLAS GOMEZ LOPEZ [DOB REDACTED], and observed there were approximately six opened cans of Modelo brand beer in the vehicle. LOPEZ advised that he only consumed one beer in his hotel and then picked up his passenger who had consumed the rest of them. Officers observed LOPEZ to have bloodshot and watery eyes when speaking with officers.
Officers requested LOPEZ exit the vehicle and participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and he agreed. During HGN, officers observed LOPEZ to have lack of smooth pursuit, dinstinct nystagmus at maximum deviation, and onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. During the one leg stand, officers observed one additional indicator of impairment. Officers requested LOPEZ provide a PBT sample, which he agreed and provided a reading of.236 BAC. LOPEZ was placed under arrest and transported to the Maple Grove Police Department where he was read a Breath Test Advisory.
LOPEZ agreed to give a DMT sample and provided a reading of.24 BAC at 3:07pm, within two hours of driving conduct. LOPEZ was arrested on August 17, 2025, for DWI in ••-CR-••-••••, and his license was revoked for the.24 BAC reading in that case. Notice of revocation was sent on September 8, 2025.
