On December 11, 2025, officers with the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a 911 call located at 420 31st Street East in the city of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arriving, officers had contact with HANUN MOHAMED AWOW, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. Defendant appeared to have a handgun in his right hand. A handgun was later recovered from the area where Defendant was standing. Officers spoke with a known adult female, Victim 1 herein. Victim 1 told officers that she was dropped off at home by a friend and observed Defendant acting erratically in the parking lot.
Victim 1 waited for Defendant to return to his apartment before she got out of her friend’s car and walked to her own apartment. When she got into her apartment, she realized she left her phone in her friend’s car. Victim 1 went back outside and saw her friend knocking on doors to return her phone. This appeared to cause Defendant to come back outside. Defendant asked Victim 1 who was knocking on doors, and Defendant told Victim 1 that he had a gun. Victim 1 tried to explain the situation to Defendant.
Victim 1 stated Defendant went into his apartment and came back outside with a handgun. Victim 1 heard Defendant rack the gun. Victim 1 then saw Defendant point the gun at her and heard a click. Victim 1 took cover behind a nearby car. Officers also spoke with a known adult male, Victim 2 herein. Victim 2 explained the situation with Victim 1’s cell phone. Victim 2 said he encountered Defendant who said something like “Get out of here, b****.” Victim 2 told Defendant to calm down, and Defendant produced a handgun and pointed it at Victim 2. Victim 2 believed Defendant may have been intoxicated.
In a post-Miranda statement, Defendant admitted to having a gun, but he denied using it or threatening anyone with it. He also denied possessing a gun at the time police arrived on the scene; however, that is contradicted by the physical evidence at the scene. Defendant also admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident. Defendant is in custody.
