On August 22, 2025, MATTHEW ALEXANDER LABNO, [DOB redacted], Defendant herein, walked into the Richfield Police Department to turn himself in for multiple incidents of criminal sexual conduct. An officer obtained a statement from Defendant. Defendant told officers that during the summer of 2018, he sexually assaulted the mother of his child, [name withheld — minor] herein. Defendant explained that Victim was laying on the bed with their child and "something came over [him]." He rolled on top of Victim, took off her pants, and penetrated her.
Defendant acknowledged that Victim said "No" and "Please stop." Defendant did not stop. Defendant went on to explain that in the summer of 2020 or 2021, he was lying in bed with his grandmother who suffered from dementia. Again, Defendant claimed that "something came over him" and he penetrated his grandmother. Defendant's grandmother has since passed away. An investigator spoke with Victim regarding Defendant's confession. Victim told officers that she was living in a home located in Richfield, Hennepin County, during the summer of 2018. Victim stated that during the summer of 2018, she was breastfeeding her son in her room.
Defendant came into the room, and she told Defendant to leave. Defendant made a comment like "You act like I've never seen your breasts before." Defendant pulled down Victim's pants and tried to penetrate her. She told Defendant to stop and attempted to push him off of her. Victim said Defendant penetrated her a few times before he stopped. Victim clarified in a later statement that Defendant penetrated her vagina during the incident. Victim stated that she had subsequently obtained an OFP and DANCO against Defendant, and she no longer has contact with him.
