On or about 05/19/2026 at approximately 1915 hours, Maple Grove police officers were dispatched to Northern Taphouse located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] N Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for a suspect that was causing a disturbance and had damaged property. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect and identified him as JAMES PAUL MALLINGER [DOB REDACTED], MALLINGER herein, being held down in the parking lot by unknown individuals. MALLINGER was bleeding and belligerent and was taken into custody.
Officers learned that MALLINGER had been drinking inside of Northern Taphouse, began to insult a customer and get agitated. Two employees then escorted MALLINGER outside. Once MALLINGER was outside, he picked up rocks and started throwing the rocks at the two employees that had escorted him out and at the front doors. The glass on the two front doors is double paned and the impact from the rocks caused the glass on both doors to shatter/crack. The employees were also hit by the rocks. MALLINGER then went further down the side of the building and punched through a glass window causing the window to break through.
MALLINGER then started to leave and that is when unknown citizens detained him waiting for police to arrive. MALLINGER was trespassed from the business and transported to the Hennepin County Jail. The glass on the two front doors is double-paned, and both are fully shattered needing to be replaced. A window to the south of the front doors has a large hole in the middle of it and then shattered around it that will also need to be replaced. An estimate was provided that showed repair to be approximately $3,795.00. Officers spoke with the general manager, B. B., who advised there was video of the incident.
B. B. Advised that one of the employees, S. B., Victim [NAME REDACTED], herein, did have some scrapes but nothing that required medical attention. The other employee did not get hurt but was identified as T. S., Victim [NAME REDACTED] Surveillance shows two employees are visible escorting MALLINGER out the front doors. MALLINGER bends down towards the rocks, grabs some and throws them at the employees and front doors. Surveillance continues to show MALLINGER pick up rocks on a few separate occasions and throw them.
Surveillance shows would be patrons leave the business and go to their car. MALLINGER is currently in custody for this offense. MALLINGER has a history of assaultive or disorderly conduct charges including convictions for disorderly conduct.
