He acknowledged that he shares a room with SM at their Mounds View residence. He said that he goes to sleep about 5 P.M. And gets up about 2 A.M. He said that he does not have a job. He talked about how much he cares about SM. He said, “The only person that I care about in my life is [SM], the only person I f****** care about in my life.” He said that he does not want this to affect SM’s future, that he wants to minimize SM’s pain, he wants her to have solace in her life, and he stands by everything she says.
He stated that her future is the most important and he does not want to hurt anyone anymore. He repeated several times when asked for follow-up that he does not want to “say too much.” He acknowledged that he and SM drove to Perham together on January 30. He said that they slept in the hotel, and nothing happened. He would not elaborate on anything that happened at the hotel. He said that they left the hotel at midnight after getting pizza and sleeping in the room. They drove home. He said that they did not go to his grandma’s grave because it was too dark.
Police interviewed SM’s mother. She said that she did not want to dismiss her daughter’s report because she said that she was sexually abused by her father as a child. She did state that SM has a history of being untruthful. She said that SM and McCleod are close. She stated that SM “hates” her. She said that she and SM have not gotten along over the past four years after her son was born. She said she remembered one time about five years ago when SM mentioned something happening between her and her father.
She urged SM to share. She said she could not remember what SM disclosed.
