Your complainant is Trooper Deanna Wayne with the Minnesota State Patrol. Your complainant states that on April 17, 2024, she responded to a call that a vehicle had crashed into the left center guardrail on Southbound 169 near 694 in Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Trooper Wayne arrived and made contact with the solo occupant, and driver, of the vehicle. The driver was identified as SHANE MAURICE MCPIKE, [DOB REDACTED]. Trooper Wayne observed MCPIKE to be dazed and lethargic, and to have thick slurred speech.
MCPIKE stated he was at a friend’s house and now driving home after stopping at White Castle. Trooper Wayne had MCPIKE perform field sobriety testing, which showed clues of impairment. MCPIKE appeared to be “on the nod”- his eyes were droopy and would close, he’d appear to nod off or fall asleep. This is a common indicator of narcotic use. Trooper Wayne applied for a search warrant of MCPIKE’s blood or urine, which was granted by Judge Quaintance. MCPIKE’s blood was collected and sent to the BCA for testing.
MPIKE’s blood tested positive for THC, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and alprazolam. MCPIKE has a prior DWI conviction in court file 19AV-CR-22-11661 from April of 2023.
