On December 2, 2025, at approximately 7:24 P.M., Officer Tran responded to Target located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] N. W., in the City of Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota, on a report of a theft in progress. Loss prevention reported that two individuals that are known shoplifters had just arrived at the store in a red Chevrolet Malibu bearing MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. While the officer was en route, the two suspects were seen by loss prevention concealing merchandise. The two parties were identified as A. S. L. And James Earl Champion, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
Loss prevention advised that the two suspects have the same motive every time they come in. They look at items, split directions, work together by choosing items and return to a certain area to stage the items together. Defendant would exit the store first, then shortly after, A. S. L. Would exit with the stolen goods. As the officer arrived, defendant had already exited the store and was in the vehicle. A. S. L. Was exiting the store with the unpaid merchandise that she made no attempt to pay for and got into the vehicle with defendant.
The officer located and stopped the vehicle. Loss prevention observed the stolen merchandise on the rear driver's seat of the vehicle. Loss prevention advised that the total of stolen merchandise from today was $309.47. Loss prevention advised officers of multiple prior incidents. On October 9, 2025, A. S. L. And defendant worked together to steal $202.99 worth of merchandise. On October 12, 2025, A. S. L. And defendant worked together to steal $228.00 worth of merchandise. On November 28, 2025, A. S. L. And defendant worked together to steal $9.99 worth of merchandise.
The officer reviewed video footage and reports for all four incidents. Defendant and A. S. L. Exhibited the exact same behavior each time. Defendant and A. S. L. Would select items, conceal them in a bag and stage them somewhere. Eventually one person would leave out the door and soon after the second person would leave with the unpaid merchandise, get in the car and leave. The total loss to Target for all four dates is $750.45.
