On or about April 23, 2026, at approximately 10:45 PM, officers with the Hennepin County Sherrif’s Office were dispatched to the entrance of the driveway at Hennepin County Medical Center (“HCMC”) located in Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers arrived and observed a vehicle blocking traffic and parked in the driveway of HCMC with an unconscious and slumped adult male driver, later identified as ERIC DARRON ADAMS, Defendant herein, and an unconscious adult female in the front passenger seat.
The vehicle was on and running. Officers observed two children: one four-year-old child, [name withheld — minor] 1 herein, and one eight-year-old child, [name withheld — minor] 2 herein, exit the back seat of the vehicle. Both Child 1 and Child 2 were crying and screaming. HCMC security was tending to Defendant and the female for what appeared to officers to be an overdose. Officers alerted medical staff. HCMC security administered internasal Narcan to Defendant. Officers asked Defendant what they took, and Defendant was adamant that he and the female only smoked a cigarette and that they bought a loose cigarette on Lowry and Penn Ave N. In Minneapolis.
Defendant told officers that the female smoked the cigarette first and passed out and then Defendant smoked it after her. HCMC nurses found burnt tinfoil in Defendant’s clothing. In officers’ training and experience, burnt tinfoil is commonly used for narcotics inhalation. Officers obtained and executed a search warrant for the blood or urine of Defendant. A blood draw was completed at approximately 1:43 AM at HCMC. The results of that testing are pending. Additional charges may be added following the completion of that laboratory analysis.
