On July 27, 2024, at approximately 11:13 P.M., law enforcement was dispatched to Speedway on 2nd Street South in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota on a report of a robbery. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. Speedway employee, D. M. G. (fully identified in police reports), told police a male wearing a red pullover hoodie, with a black ski mask and sunglasses came into the store. She said she believed he had a gun inside a small paper bag. D. M. G. Stated the male told her not to activate the alarm and to give him the money from the register.
At his direction, D. M. G. Put the money into a red drawstring backpack that the suspect gave to her. Once the male had all of the money, he ran southwest away from the store. Police searched for the suspect that evening. They initially found a male matching the description provided by D. M. G., but he was later determined to not be involved. Officers continued to search the area and located a red drawstring backpack consistent with the bag D. M. G. Put the money in. Inside the bag was $219 cash, yellow work gloves, sunglasses, and a pistol.
The pistol was identified as a Century Arms TP9 9mm handgun. The gun contained a magazine with several 9 mm rounds. The firearm was reported as stolen from a vehicle in Grandview, Missouri on March 30, 2024. July 29, 2024, police recanvased the area. They located a red sweatshirt and tennis shoes consistent with what the suspect wore outside a nearby apartment complex. Police also collected a variety of surveillance from the area, which showed the suspect's movements. The handgun, gloves, and sunglasses were sent to the BCA for testing.
Scientists located a mixture of DNA originating from two individuals on the gun and inside the right glove. They located a single male profile on the arms and nose piece of the sunglasses. The profile from the sunglasses was uploaded into the Minnesota DNA Databases and the National DNA Index System (NDIS). July 3, 2025, the previously unidentified male profile located on the sunglasses came back with a match from the Minnesota DNA Database. The profile belonged to Michael Eugene Reeves, II, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
A known sample was later taken from the defendant and analyzed. Defendant's DNA was found to match the major profiles on the gun, inside the glove, and on the sunglasses. The defendant is prohibited from possessing a firearm based upon a Threats of Violence Conviction from Wright County District Court File No. 86-CR-22-676, convicted April 25, 2023. Complainant has reason to believe and does believe that all of the above information is true and correct. The above facts constitute your complainant's basis for believing that the above-named defendant, on or about the 27th day of July, 2024, in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, committed the offense(s) described herein.
