On July 15, 2024, at approximately 2:42 P.M., officers of the Minneapolis Police Department responded to reports of a hit-and-run involving an injured pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway and Monroe Streets Northeast, City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers made contact with witnesses who indicated that a pedestrian was struck while crossing the street by a maroon 2018 Buick Encore (MN LIC# KCU380), later identified to be operated by LEBERTHA DAWANA PORTER [DOB REDACTED], DEFENDANT herein.
According to WITNESS [NAME REDACTED], DEFENDANT drove through the controlled intersection striking a traffic cone then striking VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] who was inside the crosswalk. DEFENDANT did not stop and failed to report or render aid. Upon further investigation, officers were able to locate the subject vehicle and identify DEFENDANT who admitted she was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident. DEFENDANT stated that she was aware she had struck a traffic cone but denied any knowledge that she had struck a person.
DEFENDANT also admitted that she did not have insurance at the time of the incident. Officers learned she obtained insurance the day after the incident. Medical records revealed that VICTIM suffered a fractured arm and a tibia/fibula fracture of the left leg, constituting substantial bodily harm. VICTIM was required to be treated in ICU for 5 days. Offices were able to recover a damaged side mirror at the scene that matched DEFENDANT’s vehicle. This matter was previously charged by the Minneapolis City Attorney in ••-CR-••-•••• for this same incident.
