On March 23, 2026, at 1241 hours, St. Paul police officers responded to the 1800 block of Magnolia, St. Paul, Ramsey County, on a report of a domestic assault. Officers spoke to ML, [DOB REDACTED]. She stated that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, Tommy Yang, [DOB REDACTED]. She said that they have lived together at the address for two years and that they have a child [NAME REDACTED]. She reported that they got into a verbal argument on the previous night. She went to her mother’s house after the argument.
On March 23, she and her sister returned to the apartment to change the locks. While she was changing the locks, Yang returned. She told him to leave. Yang wrapped his arm around her neck from behind and applied pressure to her neck. She could not breathe. She believed that he was going to kill her. She fought him and he released her. She ran out the back door of the apartment complex and yelled for her sister to call 911. Yang fled the scene. Officers observed that her red marks on her throat and chin.
She said that her voice was raspy and her throat was sore. Officers spoke to ML’s sister, LL, [DOB REDACTED]. She said that she was outside when she saw ML run out of the apartment building. ML’s hair was messy. LL was not inside at the time of the assault. Police interviewed a neighbor, SWF, [DOB REDACTED]. She heard loud screaming followed by loud banging. She went to her patio and heard a female yelling that she had been choked. She saw ML running out of the building holding her throat with both hands.
Officers located Yang at 1589 Atlantic. He was hiding in the trunk of his vehicle. Yang declined a custodial interview.
