On December 14, 2025, at approximately 12:10 A.M., Sergeant Eder, Officer Cargill, and Officer Leonard from the Buffalo Police Department responded to a residence in the City of Buffalo, Wright County, Minnesota, for a call regarding someone named Kevin who was using a knife, drank too much alcohol, and wanted to hurt someone. The call was taken with the assistance of the Language Line. Law enforcement entered the residence, located individuals, including a child, [NAME REDACTED], and observed blood on walls, carpeting, and flooring in multiple locations.
A door to one of the bedrooms was damaged in a manner consistent with someone trying to break down the door and stabbing the door with a knife. The individuals located in the residence were summoned to the living room area by law enforcement. The individuals indicated someone was underneath the covers of a bed in the living room. Law enforcement removed the covers of the bed and found Kevin Javier Zavala Meza [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Defendant was intoxicated. A crib in the hallway contained miscellaneous items, including a large kitchen knife with a white plastic handle and a damaged tip.
A broken kitchen knife was on the living room carpet. A translator application was used to communicate with the individuals, who spoke Spanish. It was learned that most of the people at the residence worked together. An adult male identified as S. M. Y. G. Disclosed that one of his colleagues lost control, the disaster began, a knife was involved, and some cuts happened. People were able to take the knife away from the colleague, who also broke bottles that led to people getting cuts. Another adult male identified as V. M. M. Reported that Defendant and others had been drinking.
Defendant was the person who grabbed a knife. The knife was taken from Defendant, who did not cut anyone with the knife. An adult male identified as V. A. G. S. Disclosed that Defendant was the person with the knife and he was scared due to the situation. Other witnesses also disclosed they were scared but did not see all of the events. Witnesses indicated people were cut due to the broken bottles, and that more than one person may have been involved in breaking bottles.
