On March 18, 2026, at about 7:34 P.M., Bloomington Police responded to an attempted fraudulent return and a transaction involving counterfeit currency that had just occurred at Walmart, [ADDRESS REDACTED] E in Bloomington, Hennepin County. A male, later identified as FANN J COOPER [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, attempted to return multiple packages of Bic lighters without a receipt, and then attempted to purchase a soda with a $20 bill that said "$20 for Motion Picture Purposes" and was clearly not legitimate US currency.
Surveillance video showed that Defendant had entered the store, selected multiple Bic lighter packages, and then attempted to "return" them at the customer service desk. He then placed them in a bag and walked out of the store with them without attempting to purchase or forfeit them. Officers apprehended Defendant in the vestibule and recovered all the stolen merchandise, valued in total at $40.78. Officers also recovered from Defendant's right jacket pocket a plastic container containing multiple different pills; namely, 3 blue Alprazolam 2mg, 3.5 green Alprazolam 2mg, and 3 blue Diazepam 10mg, which are all Schedule IV controlled substances under Minnesota law.
Defendant had no valid prescription for Alprazolam nor Diazepam. Defendant was also found to have several financial documents in his wallet belonging to other people. Defendant is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail.
