On March 28, 2026, at 2:17 P.M., Trooper Pevear with the Minnesota State Patrol was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a gun pointing incident, that occurred on I-494 at Valley Creek Road, in the city of Woodbury, Washington County. Upon arrival, Trooper Pevear met with N. H. And her two minor children. N. H. Stated that she had been driving on I-694 between Highway 120 and Highway 36 when she observed a black Dually truck that was following her too closely. N. H. Took a picture of the driver and truck and was going to call 911 to report the driver's conduct when he pointed a black handgun at her.
N. H. Feared for her life and veered her vehicle off the roadway. Trooper Pevear viewed the picture of the suspect and noted he was a white male wearing a baseball cap. N. H. Stated that the suspect had his left hand on the steering wheel and pointed the gun at her by reaching his right arm across his body and through the driver's-side window. Using Automated License Plate Reader cameras, the Woodbury Police Department identified a truck matching the suspect vehicle's description and bearing Wisconsin license plate DH33698. This information was shared with law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin, who located the vehicle unoccupied in the parking lot of a Comfort Suites in Hudson.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office identified the registered owner of the vehicle as SCOTT GORDON TREFFERT, [DOB REDACTED]. TREFFERT was currently staying at the Comfort Suites due to an Order for Protection preventing him from staying at his home in Hudson. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office executed search warrants on TREFFERT'S hotel room and vehicle. Inside the vehicle, officers located a BB handgun in the shape of a black semiautomatic gun in the center console. Officers located and spoke with TREFFERT, who admitted having had a driving altercation with N. H. But claimed that he held his cell phone out the window, not a BB gun.
TREFFERT was arrested and transported to the St. Croix County Jail where he remains in custody.
