At around 8:00 PM on December 27, 2025, JAMAR CALDWELL aka THERON LEE CALDWELL, Jr. [DOB REDACTED] stole a speaker from Best Buy at [ADDRESS REDACTED] B2, Roseville, Ramsey County. An officer located Caldwell outside the store and told him to stop multiple times. Caldwell ignored commands, replied, “Hell no,” and ran to a Volvo bearing Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. Caldwell looked directly at the uniformed officer several times before he opened the Volvo’s door. The officer tackled Caldwell.
Caldwell escaped and got into the driver’s seat. Caldwell frantically pressed the gas pedal to flee. The engine revved aggressively. The officer was unable to get Caldwell out of the car before it was placed in gear. Caldwell fled in the Volvo. Another squad got behind the Volvo in the parking lot with its emergency lights activated. The squad activated its sirens and got behind the Volvo as it travelled in the parking lot and got onto the frontage road. The Volvo drove over a concrete curb and proceeded to a stop sign.
The Volvo got stuck behind a pickup truck that had yielded for the squad. Caldwell looked over at the officer and fled the Volvo on foot. The officer chased Caldwell and took him into custody. Caldwell complained of chest pains. Medics responded and medically cleared Caldwell. Caldwell was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to police. Caldwell claimed he thought the man who tackled him was with the store, not a police officer. Caldwell admitted he saw the other squad’s lights behind him.
Caldwell claimed his passenger told him to keep driving because it was security lights. Caldwell said he knew the lights were red and blue. Caldwell admitted he may not have stopped when he first saw the squad’s lights. Caldwell said he was going to sell the stolen speaker on the streets for food and gas money. The stolen speaker was recovered from the Volvo. Caldwell has 6 prior felony convictions. Caldwell committed this offense while pending trial on a felony theft in Hennepin County District Court file ••-CR-••-••••.
