On 10/16/2025 at approximately 0531 hours, law enforcement officers with the Maple Grove Police Department responded to a residence on 104th Avenue, Maple Grove, Hennepin County on a report of a sexual assault. Law enforcement met with the reporting party, an identified adult woman (Victim). Victim reported that she woke up to being sexually assaulted by PAUL JOHN MONETTE, [DOB REDACTED] (MONETTE). Victim informed the responding officers that she and MONETTE were acquaintances. Victim, Victim's cousin, and MONETTE drank alcohol together the previous evening and then went to MONETTE's house after the bar.
Victim's cousin fell asleep on the couch. MONETTE told Victim [NAME REDACTED] in his bed. While sleeping, Victim recalled being touched and felt her body and legs being moved. Victim [NAME REDACTED] inside her vagina. Victim fully awoke when she heard MONETTE spit on his hand and then inserted his fingers into her vagina. Victim [NAME REDACTED] inserted his penis in her vagina first. When Victim [NAME REDACTED], she was only wearing a bra. Victim woke up her cousin and yelled that she was sexually assaulted.
Victim's pants were found in the bedroom bedding. Victim provided a consistent story at the hospital to an investigating officer. Victim recalled being moved while sleeping. MONETTE was grinding on her and poked his penis into her butt and vaginal area. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was pushed while being penetrated. MONETTE was at the residence when law enforcement arrived but did not exit the home until approximately 1400 hours. MONETTE provided a post Miranda statement. MONETTE stated that he went to sleep in his bed and that he could not recall anyone else being in the bed.
MONETTE stated that he awoke to Victim [NAME REDACTED]. MONETTE denied any sexual relations with Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Law enforcement obtained a DNA sample from MONETTE. Victim participated in a HART exam on 10/16/2025 shortly after the incident. Victim provided a consistent story and consented to swabs of her person. DNA analysis was performed from swabs obtained. The results dated 01/13/2026 reflect that the Y- chromosomal DNA profiles from Victim's perineal/external genitalia swab and Victim's perianal swab match MONETTE's Y chromosomal DNA profile.
Toxicology of Victim's urine revealed an ethyl alcohol concentration of 0.163. Victim informed law enforcement that she discovered that she had a voice memo on her phone. The recording lasts approximately fifty minutes. MONETTE and Victim [NAME REDACTED] on the recording. Snoring is heard in the recording. Amongst the snoring noises, a male's voice resembling MONETTE can be heard grunting as if engaged in sexual activity. At the end of the recording Victim [NAME REDACTED], "What the f***?" MONETTE later says, "I don't know what the f*** I did.
