At approximately 9:00 P.M., Officer observed an unoccupied Ram truck (“Vehicle”) parked outside a residence known to the Officer as a location where controlled substances and property crimes occur. Officer ran Vehicle’s license plate and it showed the truck registered to Chad Allen Braaten, [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”). Officer obtained a physical description of Defendant. Officer was informed that Defendant had an active felony warrant from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The warrant was issued in Court File No. 2025CF9 when Defendant absconded from supervision of the Division of Community Corrections.
Defendant was on supervision for a conviction for Possession of Methamphetamine. The warrant was signed on 11/20/25 and is fully extraditable. Officer was called away from Vehicle on another emergency call. When Officer returned, Vehicle was no longer parked outside of the residence. Officer began searching the area for Vehicle. Officer located Vehicle parked at the gas pumps of a nearby gas station. Officer viewed Defendant’s recent driver’s license photo so he could identify Defendant. Officer observed Defendant inside the gas station.
Defendant was arrested for the outstanding warrant. Defendant was transported to Winona Health to be medically cleared, and then transported to the Winona County Jail without incident. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
