On April 29, 2026, at approximately 1:24 P.M., law enforcement was dispatched to the Dakota County Courthouse located in the City of Hastings, County of Dakota, State of Minnesota, for a motor vehicle theft in progress. Upon arrival, law enforcement identified the suspect as Markeith Rayquan Jackson ([DOB redacted]) and learned that he was recently released from the jail. Law enforcement spoke with two victims on scene. Victim 1 stated that she was walking to her vehicle in the parking lot of the courthouse when Jackson ran up to her vehicle, opened the front passenger door and sat down.
Victim 1 called 911. Jackson got out of the passenger seat, walked around the vehicle and sat in the driver’s seat. Jackson attempted to drive the vehicle but was unable. Jackson then ran away on foot. Victim 2 stated she was driving through the parking lot and stopped at a stop sign. Jackson ran up to Victim 2’s vehicle, got into the passenger seat and took Victim 2’s purse. Jackson exited the vehicle with the purse and started running. Victim 2 got out of her vehicle and yelled for Jackson to bring her purse back.
Jackson ran back to the vehicle, entered the driver’s seat and drove off. Multiple eyewitnesses on scene corroborated Victim 1 and Victim 2’s version of events. Law enforcement was able to track the stolen vehicle via Victim 2’s iphone which was in her purse when Jackson took it. Several agencies responded and located the vehicle traveling east on County Road 42 near Highway 3 in the City of Rosemount. A deputy with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department got behind the stolen vehicle and activated his emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving north on Highway 52. The vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour at various times and was driving on the shoulder of the highway to get around traffic. The deputy terminated the pursuit for safety reasons. 3 19HA-CR-26-618 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 5/1/2026 The stolen vehicle was located a short time later in the City of Eagan and was observed running red lights and driving in an erratic manner. Law enforcement was able to block the vehicle in and end the pursuit.
Victim 2’s vehicle had a dent in the left bumper which was caused from being boxed in. Victim 2’s iphone was not recovered in the vehicle and is believed to have been thrown out the window during the pursuit. The value of the iphone is believed to be approximately $800.00.
