On March 2, 2026, at 9:43 P.M., an Eagan police officer was on routine patrol in the City of Eagan, Dakota County, Minnesota, when his automatic license plate reader indicated that the registered owner of a vehicle that just passed the officer traveling in the same direction had a revoked driving status in the state of Minnesota. The officer confirmed that the Minnesota driving privileges of that registered owner, Mason Brown, the defendant herein, were revoked. The officer then stopped the vehicle.
The officer identified the driver and lone occupant as the defendant. The defendant told the officer the vehicle was not insured. While speaking to the defendant, the officer smelled the odor of fresh marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The officer noticed that the defendant’s eyes were red, bloodshot, and watery. After denying consuming any alcohol or controlled substances, the defendant pulled a plastic bag containing marijuana out of his pocket. A second officer arrived at the traffic stop and searched the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
In a backpack on the back seat the officer located five bags of mushrooms. The contents of each bag were preliminarily tested, and the test indicated the presence of psilocybin. The net weights of the bag contents were 3.60 grams, 3.45 grams, 3.70 grams, 3.49 grams, and 3.57 grams, for a combined net weight of 17.81 grams of psilocybin. The defendant denied the psilocybin was his and claimed it belonged to his friend, but he did not know the friend’s last name.
