On May 10, 2026, a Burnsville police officers responded to a report of a domestic assault that had occurred on the evening of May 9, 2026, at an apartment in Burnsville, Dakota County, MN. The reporting party (“Victim”) said that her ex-boyfriend, Defendant MARKINDEA DEMARKO BRYANT [DOB REDACTED] had assaulted her at her residence. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had broken up about two weeks prior but had agreed to make dinner together. Victim stated that Defendant arrived via bus. The evening started off normally, but as the night progressed, Defendant became upset, and Defendant and Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Eventually, Defendant left the residence and then returned about 10 minutes later.
Defendant demanded to be let back inside, and Victim refused. Defendant then kicked in the locked door and forced it open. Defendant entered the residence, and Victim ran from him and then exited the residence. Victim stated that she ran to her vehicle which was parked outside. Defendant chased her and confronted her at the vehicle. Defendant grabbed Victim by the arm and forcefully took the car keys from her hand. Victim stated that she then got into the passenger side of the car and Defendant got into the driver’s seat.
Victim said that Defendant began saying things like, “I should smash you.” Defendant punched victim in the nose with a closed fist, causing her nose to bleed. Victim said that Defendant gave her a shirt from his bag to help control the bleeding. Defendant then began driving. As they were driving, Victim said that Defendant punched her on the left side of her face by her jaw. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was unable to move or close her mouth after she was punched. Eventually, Defendant dropped Victim off at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] incident, she was scared that Defendant was going to hurt her. The officer observed bruising on her left cheek and jaw consistent with Victim’s statement about Defendant punching her. Victim showed the officer her arm which had bruising. The officer observed the t-shirt Defendant had given Victim and saw a significant amount of a blood-like substance on the shirt. There was also blood on the passenger seat of Victim’s car. The officer observed the front door of Victim’s apartment was forced open.
The locking mechanism was broken and there was a large crack in the door itself. Two of Victim’s children, ages 8 and 9, were present in the apartment during the assault. Victim 2 19HA-CR-26-668 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 5/12/2026 signed a Release of Information for her medical records. The officer contacted Defendant via phone. Defendant admitted there had been a disagreement or altercation with Victim the evening before but denied assaulting Victim. The officer advised Defendant to respond to Burnsville Police Department to turn himself in.
