Between October 24, 2025, and December 12, 2025, CHRISTOPHER CARL REMLEY [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, entered a business located in Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota, and took $1,286.86 worth of merchandise without paying for it. On October 24, 2025, Defendant entered the store and selected merchandise totaling $318.17. Defendant scanned his items at the self-checkout and pretended to pay for the items with an app on his phone. Defendant did not manipulate or interact with the payment app on the phone and the screen on the register continued to ask for payment.
Defendant left the store without paying for the merchandise. On December 6, 2025, Defendant entered the store and selected numerous items. Defendant then went to the self-checkout, scanned the items, and pretends to pay for the items using a phone app. The Defendant did not manipulate or interact with the app as he held it up to the QR reader on the self- checkout. Defendant walked away from the checkout while the screen at the register remained waiting for payment. An employee approached Defendant about the payment not going through and tried to get Defendant to return to the register to complete the payment.
Defendant refused to return to complete the transaction and left the store with unpaid merchandise totaling $472.63. On December 12, 2025, Defendant entered the store and selected multiple items. The Defendant went to the self-checkout lane and acted as if he was paying for the merchandise with an app on his phone. The transaction declined and Defendant walked away while an employee yelled at him that he did not pay for the items. The Defendant ignored the employee’s admonitions and exited the store without paying for any of the merchandise valued at $496.06. Defendant is homeless, his whereabouts are unknown, and he has multiple open theft cases.
As such, the State respectfully requests a warrant.
