On 6/15/26 at approximately 7:57 am, Eagan Police were dispatched to a disturbance call at an apartment building located off Rahn Road in the City of Eagan, Dakota County. The reporting party, later identified as Victim 1, indicated that a male, later identified as KORY THOMAS KWAKENAT, the Defendant [DOB REDACTED], was in the hallway banging on her door and swinging a bat, he was yelling racial slurs and making threats as well. Officers responded to the location and Victim 1 advised that KWAKENAT had gone back into his apartment.
Officers knocked on KWAKENAT’s door and he refused to open it and began yelling at the officers to go away and making insults. He repeatedly refused to come out and at one point told the officers he would “take this baseball bat and run it up your ass”. KWAKENAT would repeatedly strike the door with significant force, making a loud noise. Another officer spoke with Victim 1, who stated she had gotten home from work and her sons told her KWAKENAT had been yelling racial slurs at them. She observed KWAKENAT in the hallway and he came towards her swinging a metal bat around and yelling at her.
He stated to her “I’m gonna shoot your kids”. The victim [NAME REDACTED] called 911. Officers obtained a search warrant to enter KWAKENAT’s residence, who continued to be uncooperative and disorderly with officers. He continued yelling insults and asked the officers to shoot him. The standoff with officers continued until approximately noon, when KWAKENAT was forced out of the residence by CS fired in through the exterior window. The apartment was searched, and officers located a black baseball bat on the kitchen counter and two replica firearms in the bedroom.
KWAKENAT was read Miranda and agreed to speak with officers. He stated he had become upset with people making noise in the hallway and went to confront them. He admitted he had the baseball bat with him, but claimed he was using it like a cane. He then complained about some of his neighbors. The officer asked him about the banging on the door that occurred during the standoff. KWAKENAT admitted he might have bumped the wall with the bat but denied intending it as a threat. KWAKENAT admitted that during the initial contact he had told the officers outside his door he would come after them with the 2 19HA-CR-26-850 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 6/17/2026 baseball bat but it was just him having a big mouth.
Officers later took a statement from another witness, who stated that they had heard noise earlier in the hallway, looked out and saw KWAKENAT yelling a racial slur. Later around 7:57 am they again heard KWAKENAT yelling in the hallway. He was yelling at the victim’s apartment, yelling racial slurs and insults. They heard him say something about hurting the victim’s kids and getting a gun. They opened their door and saw KWAKENAT in the hallway holding a metal bat. The witness indicated she was afraid, because KWAKENAT was talking about using a gun.
