On April 4, 2026, at approximately 8:15 pm, officers with the Hastings Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Walnut Street in Hastings, on a report of a domestic dispute in progress. Officers made contact with K. S. H., an adult woman fully identified in police reports, hereinafter “Victim-1,” as well as her husband D. P. U., an adult man fully identified in police reports, hereinafter “Victim-2.” Victim-1 and Victim-2 reported that their son Dyllon Dean Umbreit [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant,” was intoxicated and yelling at both of them.
Victim-1 and Victim-2 elaborated that Defendant had been in the home’s garage when he became upset. When Victim-1 went into the garage, Defendant yelled at both her and Victim-2. Victim and Victim-2 went to their bedroom, and when Defendant later kicked open their bedroom door, they decided to call 911. Officers on scene were able to speak with Defendant, and believing the situation was under control, cleared the residence to respond to other calls. At approximately 9:36 pm, officers were again dispatched to the Walnut Street residence, this time for a 911 hangup.
Officers were able to speak with Victim-2, who advised them that Defendant had been yelling again, but had calmed down. Victim-2 reported that law enforcement intervention was not needed at that time. At approximately 10:03 pm, officers were dispatched to the Walnut Street residence for a third time because Victim-2 reported that Defendant had threatened to kill him. When officers responded to the residence Victim-2 stated that since the last call Defendant had assaulted Victim by grabbing her face with the palm of his hand and hitting her head against the wall behind her.
Victim confirmed that this happened but stated that she was not injured. Victim-2 reported that Defendant had yelled at him that he would “fuck him up,” and had threatened to kill him. Defendant had also threatened to “silence,” Victim-1. Victim-2 reported that he was concerned that Defendant would injure someone if he was not removed from the home. Defendant was arrested at the scene. Defendant was visibly intoxicated during his interactions with law enforcement. Officers obtained a preliminary breath sample from Defendant which indicated that he had a blood alcohol contact of.159. 2 19HA-CR-26-487 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/6/2026 Defendant was previously convicted of Domestic Assault – Felony in Court File No. 19HA-CR-24- 1278, as well as Domestic Assault – Felony in Court File No. 19HA-CR-24-546.
