Nicholas Prigge of the Big Lake Police Department responded to a 911 call about a man hanging out of the window of a moving vehicle near the intersection of CR 73 and Manitou Street, in the City of Big Lake, Sherburne County, Minnesota. The caller reported that the man had fallen out/off of the window, appeared injured, and provided a description of the man. Sgt. Prigge responded to the area and found the man walking down a street. He identified the man as VMT, [DOB REDACTED]. VMT reported that he and his father, BRADY ARIN CRAMER, [DOB REDACTED], the above-named defendant, had gotten into an argument while his dad was driving and he was the front seat passenger.
VMT said that his dad pulled over and “hit him a few times before kicking him out of the vehicle. While talking to VMT, Sgt. Prigge observed blood all over VMT’s face, blood coming from VMT’s legs, and that VMT’s clothing was torn. Paramedics later evaluated VMT for injuries before transporting him to a hospital and they reported to Sgt. Prigge that VMT had injuries to his head, face, arms, hands, knees, legs, and feet. Sgt. Prigge was able to speak to the Defendant over the phone. The Defendant reported that he and VMT had gotten into an argument in a car while the Defendant was driving and VMT was the front-seat passenger.
The Defendant reported that VMT started attacking him so he told VMT to get out of the vehicle but VMT refused to do so. The Defendant said he then pulled over and tried to get VMT out of the vehicle, but VMT pulled a knife. The Defendant said he disarmed VMT, threw him out of the vehicle into the ditch, and that he and VMT “rolled around in the ditch.” The Defendant said he had not been stabbed. Assisting law enforcement spoke to Witness 1 who observed the incident between the Defendant and VMT. Witness 1 said that he was on his property when a lot of “yelling and commotion” drew his attention to the roadway.
He saw a vehicle pulled over and that there were two males “beating the s*** out of each other.” He saw one male throw the other male over the vehicle and into the ditch. The male that had been thrown was yelling for help. He said the other male got into the driver’s seat and started to drive away, and the male calling for help got up and went to the passenger door. The driver then started to drag the other male down the road until he fell off. Witness 1 said he was unsure if the dragged man was run over when he fell off the passenger side door.
Assisting law enforcement also spoke to Witness 2 who said she was driving along CR 73 when she saw a vehicle start to drive away from the shoulder with someone handing on the door, being drug, and then falling off. Law enforcement spoke to Witness 3 who reported seeing the same altercation, but added that after the male fell off the vehicle, the driver stopped, the man that fell off tried to grab hold of the vehicle again, but the driver drove off and the vehicle ran over the other man’s right arm close to his chest.
