On April 21, 2026, at 6:12 P.M., Rosemount police officers responded to an assault in progress at a business in the city of Rosemount, Dakota County, MN. The reporting party (“Victim”) said that he had gone to retrieve miscellaneous items from a male, Defendant JACOB WILLIAM HANSON ([DOB redacted]), and was assaulted in the progress of doing so. When officers arrived, they observed Victim and another male (“Witness”) standing outside of a garage at the business. They stated that Defendant had locked himself in the garage.
Victim said that Defendant was previously his boss and best friend. Officers attempted to make contact with Defendant by knocking on the door and announcing themselves multiple times but received no response. Victim appeared visibly distressed and angry. Officers observed a hematoma near Victim’s right eye. Victim later showed officer abrasions to his right elbow and right knee that appeared to be bleeding. Victim stated that he had Witness drive him to the location to retrieve personal belongings and tools from Defendant’s garage.
Victim had confirmed with Defendant via text message to go to that location. When he arrived, believing he was expected, he walked into the garage without knocking. When he entered, Defendant was standing near the door and came at him “balls a blazing.” Defendant began punching him the head with a closed fist. Victim thought he was punched about 15 times. Victim raised his hands in front of his face to defend himself and did not strike Defendant. Victim was forced to the ground where Defendant continued to punch him.
Victim couldn’t remember Defendant making any specific threats. Victim stated that he was able to get away and create some distance, but about 30 seconds later, Defendant came back at him and began punching him repeatedly. Witness observed the incident and encouraged Victim to call 911. After Victim contacted law enforcement, Defendant retreated into the garage and locked the door. Witness provided a similar statement to officers. Witness saw Defendant hitting Victim using both hands. Victim was protecting himself with his hands over his head.
Witness heard Defendant say that he was going to kill Jason while Defendant was punching him. He punched him about 10 times. Witness told Defendant to stop. He stopped briefly and then came back at Victim. Defendant kept saying “I’m going to 2 19HA-CR-26-590 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/24/2026 kill you m***********” to Victim. Defendant had Victim on the ground and punched Victim about 15 more times. EMTs arrived to assess Victim. He was transported to the hospital due to abnormal pupil response, consistent with a possible concussion.
Officers tried calling Defendant, but he stated he would not speak to them without an attorney and hung up. A KOPS alert was issued for Defendant. On April 22, 2026, at 8:02 A.M., Lakeville officers located Defendant. Rosemount officers assisted and transported Defendant to the Rosemount Police Department. Defendant declined to provide a statement. Officers took photos of Defendant’s hands. His right hand appeared to be swollen and much larger than his left hand. Victim was diagnosed with a concussion and a closed fracture of the nasal bone.
