On March 31, 2026, officers were dispatched to a call at a gas station on Pilot Knob Road in Eagan, Dakota County, Minnesota. The caller reported that a male entered the gas station crying, holding his son, and asked staff to call 911. The male was later identified as DAVID BUSTOS, JR. [DOB REDACTED]. While officers were responding to the call, dispatch advised that state patrol was out with a female on I 35E at Deerwood Road who was possibly related. When officers arrived on scene, a Mayo Ambulance and an MHealth Ambulance were present.
Mayo medics were assisting a female, “Victim” herein. After Victim [NAME REDACTED], officers took her statement. She advised that she and BUSTOS had been at their residence and Burnsville and had been drinking with a friend. Victim stated BUSTOS became jealous and accused her of cheating. Eventually, they left the residence and were driving. During their drive through Eagan, they continued to argue. At one point, BUSTOS pulled out a grayish pocketknife and held it near victim [NAME REDACTED]. BUSTOS told Victim, “Today, this is where you’re gonna get to say sorry to God.
And say goodbye to your baby, because this is your last day.” Victim’s child [NAME REDACTED] in the car. BUSTOS told Victim that people will think she killed herself. Victim advised that she saw an ambulance that was driving behind them on the highway. She opened the car door to get the attention of the ambulance to try to get them to call the police for help. In response, BUSTOS accelerated the car. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from the vehicle, that was still moving at a high speed, to escape the situation.
One of the two ambulances that was at the scene when officers arrived was the ambulance that was traveling behind BUSTOS and Victim. Victim [NAME REDACTED] on her head, arms, legs, and feet. She had a large cut on her face, which was bleeding at one point. There were large scrapes on her arms and legs, some of which required bandages to stop the bleeding. BUSTOS was placed under arrest. Pursuant to a search incident to arrest, officers located a dark gray colored pocketknife in his front right pocket.
