On December 28, 2025, at approximately 3:31 P.M., Brainerd officers were advised of a theft at 301 28th Street Southeast, Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota. The reporting party, SM (fully identified in the police reports), stated that Levi Robert Rubin [DOB REDACTED] had come to her residence to pick up personal belongings and the two got into a verbal argument. SM reported that Rubin took her work computer in the process. Sgt. Rosier responded to the location and met with SM who stated that she and Rubin had set up a time of 2:00 P.M. For Rubin to stop by to pick up his personal belongings.
SM stated that when Rubin eventually did show up, Rubin knocked on the front door of the residence. SM stated that all of his personal belongings were gathered in the garage and she directed Rubin to walk around to the open garage door. Rubin walked around to the garage door and began gathering the items that were set out for him. SM stated that Rubin requested to check inside the residence for further items that may have been left inside. SM stated that she was alright with that, allowed Rubin inside the residence, and stated that she did not follow him inside the residence due to not wanting to provoke anything.
SM stated that Rubin went upstairs to gather any remaining items that he may have found. A short period of time later, Rubin came back down and left with his items. After Rubin had left the location, SM went back inside and noticed that several items were out of place. Eventually, SM realized that her work computer was no longer where it was supposed to be. SM stated that the laptop is hers but belongs to her employer. SM stated that the laptop has protected client information and is password protected.
SM stated that Rubin has no ties to the laptop. Once SM realized that the computer was missing, she, her sister, and her mother checked the whole house looking for it but were unable to find it. SM did reach out to Rubin and asked where the computer was at to which Rubin denied having. SM stated that it was not where she left it and that she needs to have it back. Rubin stated that he did not take it. SM stated that if she does not get the computer back, due to it being a work computer, she would be calling the police department.
When Rubin did not provide any further information on the location of the computer, SM reached out to the police department. Rosier was informed that the computer was a surface pro tablet, black in color, with a fold over keyboard. The computer has a sticker with SM's employer on it, indicating that it belongs to the business. SM stated that the approximate cost for the tablet if bought brand new was approximately $1500 - $2000. It should be noted that Rosier conducted research once back at the police department to see the approximate range in price for this specific laptop.
