On November 21, 2025, at approximately 10:38 A.M. Law enforcement responded to a 911 hang up from a hotel in Lakeville, Dakota County. Hotel management then requested a welfare check for a specific room due to a disturbance and provided law enforcement with the name and vehicle information associated with the room. Law enforcement noted an active Harassment Restraining Order (HRO) for the renter of the room. While looking into the HRO, law enforcement observed a male, later identified as AARON THOMAS DEER [DOB REDACTED] the Defendant herein, walk towards the associated truck, put a child [NAME REDACTED], enter the driver’s seat, and turn the vehicle on.
An officer talked to Defendant and noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from him and observed that Defendant had bloodshot watery eyes. Law enforcement learned Defendant had an alcohol restriction on his license, was required to have an interlock device, and had active warrants. Defendant was placed under arrest. Defendant requested that law enforcement turn the truck off. While the officer was turning the truck off, he observed that there was no interlock device in the vehicle. Defendant was transported to the Dakota County Jail where he completed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST). Officer observed signs of impairment during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and the Walk and Turn test.
Defendant provided a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) which showed an alcohol concentration of 0.14. Defendant was read the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory and agreed to provide a breath sample. The results of the breath test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.12 at 12:18 P.M.
