On April 6, 2026, officers with the Farmington Police Department were dispatched to an apartment building on Dushane Parkway, which is within Dakota County, on a report of a domestic assault in progress. At the scene officers made contact with Burak Ozdemir [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant,” and his wife M. J. O., an adult woman fully identified in police reports, hereinafter “Victim.” Officers separated Defendant and Victim [NAME REDACTED] in her and Defendant’s apartment. In the apartment officers observed a computer with a cracked screen and that Victim’s phone was broken.
Victim reported that she and Defendant had a verbal altercation during which Defendant threw her phone on the ground, breaking it. Victim further reported that Defendant grabbed her with his right arm and wrapped it around her neck, restricting her breathing to the point where she believed she was going to pass out. Victim was observed to have marks, redness, and sweat on her. Victim was also observed to be physically shaking, unsure of where to stand or sit, as well as crying continually during her interaction with law enforcement.
Officers learned that Defendant and Victim have been married for five years. Victim reported that she and Defendant fight verbally almost every day, and that Defendant had been physical with her in the past, going so far as to put a belt around her neck in recent weeks. Victim reported considering suicide due to the relationship. Victim was provided with various resources to help her get assistance with her situation before officers left the scene. Defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Dakota County Jail without incident.
