On April 1, 2026, at approximately 2:23 P.M., officers of the Austin Police Department were dispatched to 811 1/2 3rd Street NW in the City of Austin, County of Mower, for a report of a stabbing. Victim A (an adult male) told dispatch that his tenant, AUBREY LEE USHERA, DOB/030276, the defendant herein, had stabbed him twice. Victim A advised that he was walking to the hospital. Officer Keesey responded to the hospital and spoke with Victim A. Victim A stated that the defendant stabbed him. Keesey observed Victim A to have three (3) stab wounds: one stab wound on Victim A’s left upper arm near his shoulder area that was approximately 3-5 inches long, one stab wound on the inside of Victim A’s left bicep that was approximately 1 inch long, and a stab wound on Victim A’s upper/middle back near his left lung that was approximately 3-5 inches long.
The back wound was the most serious as it was believed a lung had been punctured. Victim A also bled out a large amount. Initially, medial staff prepped Victim A to be transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital, but it was determined that he needed emergency surgery. Det. Strouf later obtained a statement from Victim A. Victim A stated that he was at his rental building located at 811 1/2 3rd Street NW fixing a leaky pipe in the hallway. He stated prior to that day, the defendant locked Victim A out of his building and Victim A had called police.
Victim A said the defendant had threated to kill Victim A via text message last week. Victim A said that the defendant figured out a way to lock him out of his own building, but he was able to get in through the back door on that day. Victim A said he tried to fix the leaky pipe but left for Runnings to get a fitting. Victim A said that the defendant must have seen that he had been at the building, because when he returned, his tools were missing. Victim A said that he was fixing the pipe down the hallway from the defendant’s apartment.
Victim A said the defendant came out of his apartment and came straight at him and said, “I’m going to kill you.” Victim A said he was trapped. Victim A said the defendant then stabbed him in the chest and when Victim A tried to escape down the stairs, the defendant stabbed him in the back. Victim A said he had nothing in his hand when he was attacked by the defendant. Deputy Meyer of the Mower County Sheriff’s Office responded to the apartment building. While driving westbound on 8th Place NW, Meyer saw the defendant standing on the sidewalk at 3rd Street waving his arm and yelling at Meyer as he drove past.
Meyer turned around and observed the defendant walking from the apartment building. The defendant was yelling frantically and was very upset. Meyer asked the defendant if he was ok. The defendant then sat down on the sidewalk and put his hands behind his back. The defendant said his landlord tried to stab him with a screwdriver, but he got him first. The defendant said he stabbed the guy and claimed that he was defending himself. Meyer observed blood on the defendant’s right pant leg and Meyer asked him if it was his blood.
