On December 1, 2025, an officer with the Lakeville Police Department responded to a reported burglary having occurred at a residence located in Dakota County. The officer spoke with the homeowner, “Victim” herein, who stated that his basement window had been broken outward and was open. Victim and his family checked for items in the home and discovered a large number of collectable coins were missing. The officer observed the basement window had been broken outward and there were footprints in the snow leading back to the front of the house.
A detective was assigned to the case and learned that a neighbor, “Witness” herein, had contacted police and reported that Rachael Lynne Holzer [DOB REDACTED], “Defendant” herein, resided on her property and had attempted to pay rent using collector coins. The detective spoke with Witness, who stated that Defendant was late on rent and texted her photos of collector and novelty coins on December 11, 2025, asking if she could pay with them. Witness stated that Defendant had helped Victim back into the house the previous summer after he fell in his driveway, and would have seen the coins in the house.
Witness also stated that she knew Victim left his house unlocked and believed Defendant knew as well. The detective checked to see if Defendant had pawned anything in the past few months and learned that Defendant had pawned collector and novelty coins between October 28, 2025, and December 12, 2025. The detective obtained a search warrant for Defendant’s residence, which was executed on January 29, 2026. Defendant was present at the residence and agreed to speak with the detective. Defendant admitted to stealing the coins from Victim’s house.
Defendant stated that she knew Victim left his doors unlocked and went to take the coins when she knew he wasn’t home. Defendant admitted to entering Victim’s home twice on the same day and stole coins both times. Officers discovered numerous stolen coins in Defendant’s residence.
