On June 11, 2026, officers with the Hastings Police Department were dispatched to a residence on North Frontage Road in the city of Hastings, which is within Dakota County, on a report of a disturbance. Dispatch aired that an intoxicated male had thrown a bottle of alcohol at the 911 caller and locked them out of the residence. At the scene, officers made contact with an adult woman who is fully identified in police reports, hereinafter “Victim.” Victim informed officers that her boyfriend Maynard Lee Johnson ([DOB redacted]), hereinafter “Defendant,” had been at her residence that night and had been drinking throughout the evening.
One of Victim’s daughters made a comment to Defendant about his drinking, at which time Defendant became upset and began yelling and screaming. Victim first sent her children to a neighbor’s home to avoid Defendant, and subsequently went over to that same neighbor’s home to also avoid Defendant. This neighbor, an adult woman fully identified in police reports, hereinafter “Witness-1,” and her significant other, an adult male fully identified in police reports, hereinafter, “Witness-2,” were both present at their home.
Victim stayed outside the home with Witness-1 for some time talking. Defendant followed Victim over to Witness-1’s home, took a bottle of alcohol and threw it on the ground, breaking it, and began to threaten to harm Victim for “talking s*** and whatever.” Victim reported that at this time she was afraid Defendant was going to assault her. Victim and Witness-1 subsequently went inside Witness-1’s home. Defendant remained outside the home for some time, yelling at Victim and Witness-1 and calling them both “b******.” Witness-1 then told Defendant to get away from her home.
Defendant then walked up to Witness-1’s front door, hit the door, and then opened it, before entering Witness-1’s home without her permission, while Victim was telling him to leave. While inside the residence, Defendant physically pushed Victim with both hands. Witness-1 again told Defendant to leave her home. Defendant left, but then re-entered Witness-1’s residence. At this time Witness-2 came downstairs, told Defendant to leave, and he did so. Victim’s two children, aged eight and nine years old respectively, were present when this assault occurred.
Officers subsequently located Defendant standing outside Victim’s residence and detained him. Officers observed the overwhelming smell of alcohol coming from Defendant at the time of his arrest. While still on scene, Defendant proceeded to threaten officers, telling one that he would “dust” them or “beat their 3 19HA-CR-26-834 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 6/12/2026 ass.” He also proceeded to refer to the responding officers by a number of racial and homophobic slurs and referred to himself as a member of the Aryan Nation.
