On May 21, 2026, at approximately 1319 hours, Officer Johnson received a report that an individual had made a threat to a Doherty Staffing Solutions employee. Doherty Staffing Solutions is a business located in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, State of Minnesota. Johnson and other officers were already investigating a different incident involving the same subject, Dustin John Comeau, the Defendant herein [DOB REDACTED]. Johnson reviewed the call notes and learned that the Defendant had threatened a staff member by stating he would return to the business with a gun and grenade.
Johnson contacted the 911 caller, an off-site manager fully identified in police reports. The off-site manager advised that an employee, AB (fully identified in police reports), had contacted her and reported that the Defendant entered the business and threatened him. The off-site manager said AB left work early following the incident. Johnson then contacted AB by phone. AB stated that the Defendant had missed work the previous day and arrived at the business around noon, appearing to be intoxicated.
AB advised that the Defendant entered the office to claim the gift card. AB told the Defendant that the review had to be completed online and could not be processed in person. AB reported that the Defendant stated words to the effect of: "I bet if I came back with a gun and grenade, it would change things." AB stated the Defendant then left. AB advised that he decided to leave the office and work from home because he feared what the Defendant might do. Johnson then spoke with the on-site manager (fully identified in police reports). The on-site manager stated that AB appeared visibly shaken by the incident and left the office with his computer charger, leaving his computer behind.
The on-site manager reported that after AB had left for the day, the Defendant returned to the business carrying a stop-sign flag and asked for AB. The on-site manager advised the Defendant that AB was not there. The Defendant placed the flag in a slot on the door and left. The on-site manager showed Johnson the flag. Johnson observed the flag was approximately three feet long with an orange nylon flag attached. Johnson also observed that the wood handle portion of the flag was broken, creating a pointed end that could potentially be used as a weapon.
Johnson photographed the flag and seized it as evidence. The Defendant was eventually located and arrested.
