On February 21, 2026, Columbia Heights Police Department responded to Hennepin County Medical Center following an assault report which had occurred the evening prior at a residence located on 42nd Avenue in Columbia Heights, Anoka County. Upon arrival at the hospital, officers spoke to the reporting party, Victim 1 (V1), who was undergoing a SANE exam following an assault by her boyfriend, Danny Romel Chacon Cordova [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. V1 stated she and Defendant had known each other for two years, but only recently been dating for a month.
The night prior, on February 20, 2026, Defendant was intoxicated after they went out to dinner and requested V1 have sex with him. V1 declined his requests, but Defendant repeatedly requested to have sex, kept touching V1’s breasts and began removing V1’s clothing as he reminded V1 how much money he had spent at dinner that evening. Defendant pulled V1’s skirt down, got on top of her, and began vaginally penetrating V1. After several moments, Defendant flipped V1 over and began to attempt anal penetration.
V1 immediately pushed herself away to prevent anal penetration and Defendant became upset and grabbed V1’s arms harder and pulled them behind her back. V1 told Defendant he was hurting her and to stop. Defendant responded that he didn’t care and became more aggressive while trying to penetrate V1 anally. V1 again told Defendant to stop and that he was hurting her, to which Defendant responded some version of, “I don’t f****** care, I’m not stopping” and continued to aggressively attempt anal penetration.
V1 was able to free an arm, and Defendant began using his knee to hold her down while grabbing her other arm harder. V1 began screaming, which caused Defendant to pause and V1 was able to escape and ran out of the residence. V1 got to her vehicle and realized Defendant’s phone was left in her vehicle after dinner when it started ringing and she answered it. Defendant had called and started threatening V1 telling her to come back or he would look for her at her house. V1 placed the phone on the sidewalk and ran back to her vehicle as Defendant approached.
V1 locked her door but cracked open the window to tell Defendant where his phone was. Defendant put his hand through her window, tried to remove the key and then opened her door. Defendant got into the vehicle and began grabbing V1’s legs and body while demanding sex. At this point V1 was able to call 911 but was put on hold to wait for an interpreter. Defendant called V1 a “dramatic whore” and demanded she hang up while continuing to touch her. V1 pushed Defendant away, and when a Spanish interpreter began speaking on the phone, Defendant got out.
V1 had contusions and abrasions on her back, left leg, and left arm consistent with the contact described during the incident.
