On April 25, 2026, officers with the Champlin Police Department were notified by dispatch that an individual called Hennepin County dispatch and made numerous threats against members of the Champlin Police Department. The individual was identified as BRENDON MICHAEL DAUGHERTY; [DOB REDACTED] (herein Defendant). During the phone call the Defendant named a specific Champlin police officer (herein Victim 1) and said that that officer should die and someone should hurt his family. The Defendant also stated, “I want to murder all of you,” “If they want to come see me so I can kill them, bring them here I will kill them,” and “I’m going to go right now and kill someone.
I’m grabbing my keys and going out to murder.” He also stated, “I am going to murder all of you,” “You all need to die,” “If you gave me your first and last name I would have looked up your address and I would have murdered your entire family,” “Something bad is going to happen today,” “You’re really really bad at this and because of that an officer has to die tonight,” and “If you want to be a sarcastic smart ass I’m gonna go outside and kill a cop.” Dispatch noted that the Defendant had a documented history of previously making threats to a U. S. Senator.
Victim 1 had conducted a traffic stop on the Defendant on April 1, 2026. During the stop the Defendant told Victim 1 that he should commit suicide. Within 24 hours of the stop, the Defendant called Victim 1’s work cell phone and told Victim 1 that he was tempted to do something to him during the traffic stop because Victim 1 is “a piece of s***.” The Defendant also stated that he hates “you people” and “anytime you pull me over I’m gonna look up your names and your addresses and dox you because people like you who give out b******* tickets deserve consequences.” On April 25, 2026, the Defendant called Victim 1’s work phone and left a voicemail.
In that voicemail, the Defendant makes numerous threats including statements that “all cops should die and their families should be tortured to death,” and “I really really hope that someone genocides your family line.” The Defendant has a number of violent crime convictions including two convictions for 5th Degree Assault, Threats of Violence, Obstructing Legal Process, First Degree Burglary, and 2nd Degree Aggravated Robbery. Officers familiar with the Defendant were aware that he previously reached for a knife during an interaction with the Coon Rapids Police Department.
Police were also aware that the Defendant recently made threatening phone calls to a federal Judge. Officers were concerned with attempting an arrest of the Defendant at his home given the likelihood that he would not surrender peacefully. He was ultimately arrested while driving his vehicle following a traffic stop. The Defendant is currently in custody.
