On April 6, 2026, at approximately 2:02 P.M., police responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, on a report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, police spoke with NAK. Police observed that the living room was in disarray and there was an infant in a crib. NAK told police that her boyfriend of one year, TA-SHAWN DEVON MCMILLER – [DOB REDACTED], left the apartment after he choked her against the wall and took her phone. NAK reported that MCMILLER woke up around 11:00 and was upset for some reason.
NAK thought it was due to a lack of sleep because MCMILLER spent the night at her apartment to help with their infant daughter. NAK said they argued and then she told MCMILLER to leave around noon. NAK stated that MCMILLER tried to take her keys then choked her against the wall. NAK said MCMILLER used his right hand to hold her against the wall by her neck. During the strangulation, NAK reported that she had a hard time speaking and it hurt her throat. Eventually, NAK said she was able to push MCMILLER off her then MCMILLER told her that he “would beat her like a man.” NAK started recording the incident on her cell phone.
NAK said MCMILLER followed her into the living room and held her down on the couch. NAK stated that MCMILLER held her left arm and wrist down while trying to take her cellphone and keys. NAK repeatedly told MCMILLER that she was going to call the police. Eventually, NAK was able to get out from under MCMILLER and went over to pick up their baby. While holding their baby in her left arm, NAK said she kept trying to push MCMILLER away while he stated, “Don’t make me beat you up.” NAK reported that MCMILLER took her phone away from her, but she was able to get her key back.
Then MCMILLER left the apartment with her phone. NAK said she was able to use her iPad to track her phone back to his address, but he shut the phone off around 1:00 and she could no longer track the phone’s location. NAK showed the officer a scratch on her left wrist from the assault. In a follow-up statement, NAK reported that MCMILLER’s mental health has been bad recently, and he was hospitalized in October 2025 for mental health concerns after threatening to self-harm. NAK said their baby was born premature, and the feeding schedule is very demanding, which has caused everyone to lose a lot of sleep.
NAK stated that as a result, everyone is exhausted, and they have been arguing a lot. NAK said that she really wants MCMILLER in their baby’s life but is afraid to be alone with him due to this incident. NAK reported that she repeatedly told MCMILLER that she would call the police if he did not leave. While being strangled, NAK told the investigator that she was able to breathe, and the left side of her neck hurt afterwards. MCMILLER has the following qualified domestic violence related offense convictions within the past ten years: Misdemeanor DANCO Violation in Ramsey County District Court File No. 62-CR-21-4150 on July 21, 2022. Misdemeanor DANCO Violation in Ramsey County District Court File No. 62-CR-20-7101 on December 28, 2020.
