On January 2, 2026, officers from the Hastings Police Department responded to a report that an adult male was unresponsive at a residence on the 1900 block of Walnut Street in Hastings, Dakota County, MN. Upon arrival, officer located the unresponsive male, identified as Roger Eugene Thibeault [DOB REDACTED], the victim herein, in the front passenger seat of a truck in the driveway of the home. The victim [NAME REDACTED]. The victim was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead. Officers also located JEREMY PAUL FREDLINE [DOB REDACTED], the Defendant herein, near the truck with the victim.
The Defendant provided several statements to law enforcement on various dates. The Defendant told officers that the victim did a line of methamphetamine on January 2, 2026, while the two of them were hanging out at the Defendant’s home, and that about an hour or so later, the Victim [NAME REDACTED] went outside to the truck. The Defendant told officers the victim asked the Defendant to stay with him, and that they held hands until the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. The Defendant stated the methamphetamine belonged to him and that the victim [NAME REDACTED]. The Defendant provided the methamphetamine to the victim, clarifying that he knew it did not contain fentanyl because “I test all my shit.” He showed officers various test kits he had in his possession to test for fentanyl.
Defendant explained that he felt responsible and that it could have been the drugs that killed him. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined the manner of death was an accident and the cause of death to be acute methamphetamine toxicity. An analysis of the victim’s blood revealed a methamphetamine level of 1200 ng/ML. Methamphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance. The Defendant is currently in custody on unrelated matters. The State is asking for a Complaint Warrant so bail and conditions can be set.
