On November 4, 2025, at approximately 2132 hours, Cottage Grove Police Department Officer Davick was on routine patrol in his fully marked patrol vehicle in the area of the Holiday gas station at [ADDRESS REDACTED] South in Cottage Grove, Washington County, Minnesota. At that time, his attention was drawn to a vehicle with Minnesota license plate BSZ***. The vehicle was backed into a parking spot on the northern end of the store, and Officer Davick saw a lone male sitting in the driver's seat, smoking a cigarette.
Officer Davick saw that the window tine appeared to be under 50% light emission. He also saw that the front license plate had clear/reflective tape on it. The vehicle registered to D. J. H., who lives in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Officer Davick continued to sit and observe the vehicle, and it remained in the same parking space for approximately 30 minutes. Eventually, Officer Davick saw the driver, later identified as ZANE RUSSELL ROBERT DOSCH [DOB REDACTED], exit the vehicle and go into the store.
A short time later, Dosch returned to the vehicle, turned on his lights and then started driving south through the parking lot. Officer Tobritzhofer was parked nearby, and saw the vehicle start to leave the parking lot before going back and parking at a gas pump at Holiday. He then saw Dosch walk back to the front of the store before walking back to the car. Dosch then pulled out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officer Tobritzhofer began following the suspect vehicle as it accelerated and activated his emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle accelerated northbound on East Point Douglas Road South, at one point traveling in excess of 109 miles per hour. The vehicle went through the stop sign at East Point Douglas and Hyde Avenue and continued through the Wakota Inn parking lot, before it got stuck in a dead end. The vehicle then drove over a curb and down an embankment. Dosch continued to flee from officers until he crashed into a tree near Kohl's. Dosch then fled from the vehicle on foot, but Officer Davick was able to apprehend and detain him a short time later.
He was searched incident to arrest, and Officer Davick found a clear, plastic baggie in his pant pocket that contained a white, powdery substance. That substance later tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 1.5 grams.
