Officer Sladek opened a pink zipper bag inside the backpack and located a small clear plastic baggy that contained a white crystal substance. Through training and experience Officer Sladek identified this substance as methamphetamine. Officer Sladek located several other small clear plastic baggies that contained methamphetamine inside the backpack. Officer Sladek also located a small circle screw off container that contained several pills. 2 66-CR-26-792 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/9/2026 Officer Sladek asked Mickelson if the pink backpack was hers and she said yes.
Officer Sladek informed Mickelson that she was being detained. Officer Sladek read Mickelson the Miranda Warning and she said she understood. Officer Sladek informed Mickelson she was under arrest for the substance located in her backpack. Officer Sladek asked Mickelson if she knew what the substance was and she started to cry and did not respond. Officer Sladek read Mickelson the Miranda Warning again in the sally port of the Rice County jail and asked if she wanted to speak with him. Mickelson stated she wanted to cooperate.
Mickelson stated the following: The substance was methamphetamine and it was for personal use. C. D. Does not know she uses. She gets the meth from a family member, but did not want to disclose who. The family member does not live in Northfield. Some of the pills inside the purse were prescription medications. The little green pills were levothyroxine. Later Officer Sladek received a phone call from Jail Staff who said they located several more small clear plastic baggies containing a white crystal substance inside Mickelson's bag in the bottom of a cigarette container.
Officer Klostermeier went to the jail and took possession of the narcotics. Officer Kelling tested and measured the original crystal substance that was located inside Mickelson's backpack. The substance tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine and weighed 2.2 grams. Officer Sladek received the evidence that Officer Klostermeier got from the jail. Jail staff also located a white and brown pill capsule with the lettering ZA-18 on it.
